Post Event

I chose to attend the Summer Job and Internship Fair at Saginaw Valley State University. This employment fair took place on Tuesday, January 31^st between 11 to 1 AM. I chose to go to this event because I hadn't been to an event like this yet this year. 

While at this event I met a lot more people than I have at these events in the past. I am not exactly sure what made this event so much more interactive. The only thing that I did different from the past was went a little earlier in the day. When I arrived at the event it was just starting so not a ton of people were there yet. Because of this, I feel like I had a better opportunity to speak to everyone I wanted to talk to and the representatives were more likely to reach out to me. Because of this, my expectations were different from the reality of the event but in a good way. The interactivity of the event made me feel like it was really worth going. 

I talked to the representative from Morley the longest. I was genuinely interested in what this company does and because they do so much, there was a lot to talk about. At the end of our conversation the representatives asked me for my contact information and we exchanged emails. That week I received a follow up email from Morley. I did respond for the sense of making connections but I was really looking for a job closer to home. 

In my personal opinion I believe employment fairs have made a comeback in the last couple of years because our business world revolves around connections, networking, and knowing people. Because of this, events like employment fairs, that are based around networking and making connections are crucial to college students and people looking to get their foot in the door with businesses. As a college student, I think these events are very important and very beneficial. I enjoy the employment fair because you get to socialize with people you would have never met if it weren't for this event. Also, it is really good experience if nothing else.
