Post Event

On Friday, April 7th, I attended the chamber of commerce WakeUp! Midland breakfast event. This event took place in the Great Hall Banquet & Convention Center in Midland. The event started at 7:30 am and went until 9 am. I chose this particular event because I have not previously been involved with anything in the Midland community. I live in Saginaw and I am in Bay City often so I thought it would be nice to branch out to a new community and make new connections. As expected, it was a very calm morning filled with networking, getting a better outlook on a new community, and making new connections.

I met many people at this event including representatives from the local animal shelter, SVSU alumni, local businesses, and I even got the chance to meet one of my professors daughters. I really enjoyed meeting and talking to all of these people about the roles they play in the community. I chose to follow up with Melissa from the local animal shelter called Great Lakes Bay Animal Society. She told me about the upcoming event they are putting on in Midland and how necessary volunteers are for these events. She also told me about their animal foster program and how to get further involved with that. I chose to follow up with Melissa because she was so nice and easy to talk to. I love animals so I loved hearing about their organization and the selfless things they all do for these animals in need. I have not yet heard back from Melissa, however, the event was just last week so I am expecting to hear back sometime this week.

I think the best thing a PR professional can do at a chamber event is network. Meeting as many people as possible can be seriously helpful in a PR career. Not only meeting people but getting to know what role they play in the community and what ways you could work together for the most beneficial outcome as possible. I enjoyed this event much more than I expected I would. It was a really good way to start a productive Friday morning and I got to meet so many nice people.
