Established in 1987, Project Cure, is the world’s largest distributor of medical donations to developing countries. Project Cure is a nonprofit organization that collects surplus medical supplies from hospitals then sorts, tests, and ships those supplies to the poorest clinics and hospitals worldwide.

Project cure was founded by Dr. James Jackson (pictured below) who at the time was working internationally as an economic consultant for developing countries. During a trip to Brazil, Dr. Jackson visited a small clinic near Rio de Janerio, where he learned that patients were often turned away due to lack of basic medical supplies. This was the moment that Dr. Jackson knew he had to take action. He promised the doctor at that clinic that he would provide relief to that clinic. Dr. Jackson returned to his home in Evergreen, Colorado, and with the assistance of friends in the medical industry collected $250,000 of medical supplies in his garage in just 30 days time. By personally paying the shipping expenses, Jackson was able to send an ocean-going cargo container carrying the donated supplies to Brazil. This was the first time Project Cure was put into action.

From starting small in Colorado, Project cure has expanded to 6 large distribution centers in the United States. Currently, Project Cure has large distribution warehouses in Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Tennessee, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. In addition to this, they have also opened smaller facilities in several other states where the donation items are gathered.

Project Cure send a wide range of medical supplies such as gloves, scrubs, scanners, incubators, and syringes, hospital beds and so much more to places like Cambodia, Kenya, and Democratic Republic of Congo. Since its first shipment in 1987, Project Cure has reached patients, families, and children in 130 countries. Like many nonprofits, the only way things are possible at Project Cure is through the help of donations and the time of volunteers. With the help of volunteers that share the same hunger to help others, Project Cure continues to spread health and hope around the world.
